Hodi’eini Hashem Kitzi

Reb Dovid Shifrin, once the head secretary of Agudas Chabad of USA and Canada, told over in the name of Reb Avraham Chaim Rosenbaum:

The Tzemach Tzedek was once saying Tehillim in his room with a special sweetness and full of feeling. His pleasant, soul-stirring voice filled the courtyard, and many Chassidim gathered around the Rebbe’s window to hear to the verses of Tehillim flowing from their Rebbe’s soul, in a tone of bitterness yet hope. It is there that they heard this melody to the words “Hodi’eini Hashem Kitzi”. During that time, the Rebbetzin came out of the house, and seeing the crowd packed around the window, was astonished! In her unique sincerity she remarked, “Why are you all pushing? Have you never seen a Yid saying Tehillim?”

Lyrics:

הוֹדִיעֵנִי ה’ קִצִּי וּמִדַּת יָמַי מַה הִיא אֵדְעָה מֶה חָדֵל אָנִי (תהילים לט:ה)

O L-rd, let me know my end, and the measure of my days, what it is; I would know when I will cease (Tehillim 39:5).
